Directorate of Orientation office burgled

·        Thieves struck twice in quick succession, cart away valuable items
·        It’s an ugly incident, says Uzum

The office of the Directorate of Orientation, Asaba, Delta state has been burgled for the second time in quick succession with the thieves carting away valuable equipment belonging to the Directorate.
Mr. Eugene Uzum

Sources hinted that the thieves had earlier struck in the twilight of last December making away with some items, noting that the office was again invaded last Monday, literally sweeping away most of the valuable equipment in the office.
Executive Assistant to Governor on Orientation, Mr. Eugene Uzum, a barrister, while commending inquisitive journalists for calling to find out the true situation of things, said in a telephone interview that the situation was “ an ugly incident.”
He said: “On Monday the office was burgled; it has been a major setback.”
Uzum explained that he could not understand how such bulky equipment could be carted away without any one seeing the thieves, pointing out that the mystery makes the issue of security a huge challenge for offices that are operating in the environment.
Asked why he did not deem it necessary to provide security to protect his office, he said there is security in the environment, but that it is a common security that is “not regulated by us.” He explained that there is the Civil Defense Corps and the office of the State Fire Service in the environment.
Uzum announced that the matter has been reported to the police who have waded into the incident and are currently conducting their investigation, pointing out that he would rather leave the police to do their work.

He declined to provide information about the items lost to the thieves, saying that he could not do so since he was not in the office with the journalists at the time the interview was being conducted.
