Teachers disrupt screening exercise in Ika South

Teachers in Ika nation have staged a peaceful protest over what they described as marginalization and dehumanizing act meted to them.

The protest erupted at Ika National Hall where a screening exercise was going on.

According to Comr. Daniel Iduh, NUT chairman Ika North/East, we were undergoing a screening exercise when some teachers started chanting that they are being dehumanized and the NUT is not doing anything about their predicament, all effort to calm them fell on deaf ears.

Comr. Iduh said the aggrieved teachers blamed the screening team for unjustly reducing their levels and steps.  He recounted how they gathered to sort promotion issues that were made last year, instead of promotion implementation, teachers were demoted.

He noted also that some teachers had their salaries slashed by the screening team over their inability to provide their Teachers Registration Certificate, but argued  that it was not included as a requirement during the screening exercise, adding that all the teachers have it, because it is what makes them professionals.

The Chairman however urged the state government and relevant bodies to look into the matter, saying that there is heavy tension among teachers in the area. The irate teachers were spotted along the busy Lagos-Asaba road chanting solidarity songs.

Meanwhile two teachers were made to suffer more losses following the theft of their motorbikes.
