Journalist tasks media practitioners on innovation, quality reportage

An Abuja-based journalist, Ms Moji Makanjuola, has urged media practitioners in Nigeria to be innovative by developing new methods of reporting and producing programmes that would mold the society for good.
She gave the advice on Friday during a sensitisation workshop on Concept of Quality in Trade and Industry in Minna.
In a paper titled, ``Conformity with standard in news reporting and media programming, ’’ she said by so doing and within the context of their various house styles, rejection of stories by editors and the powers that be would drastically reduce.
``We have the tools; we have acquired more with this workshop, let’s network and grow the economy of this great country with our pens and gadgets.
``Every media house had its own unique style but there is generalisation of what the media profession calls for – to be fair, balanced, objective, seeking and reporting the fact always, ’’ she said.
Makanjuola said there must be extra work to truly understand the concept of quality in trade and industry to be able to appropriate the right reportage that would encourage best practice.
``Investigative journalism must come into play, while research and ability to do comparative analysis must be applied as well as understanding the trend of national quality infrastructure.’’
Makanjuola, a seasoned broadcaster, said the ability to conform and recognise standard is a vital key to the media and producers in developing countries aiming to break into international market and maintain their competitive stand.
She commended UNIDO for organising the workshop, which she described as ``timely and desirable’’, considering the new drive to grow and develop the national economy.(NAN)
