Delta APC’s tales by moonlight, by PDP

                                                                                                             REACTION
By Ifeanyi Osuoza
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Delta State has read with great concern a press statement issued by the fractured Delta State All Progressives Party and signed by one Engr. Leonard Obibi, who describes himself as the State Publicity Secretary (Ag) of the party, linking Governor IfeanyiOkowa to a report in some national news dailies, alleging that a Governor from one of the Oil Producing States in Nigeria, diverted $10 million bail-out fund through a so-called “mistress.”

The statement by the Delta APC is baseless, unfounded, tendentious, malicious and deliberately calculated to impugn the integrity of Governor Okowa, whose reputation as a God-fearing man, astute administrator and good manager of resources is well known and is driving fear into his enemies. Perhaps, it would be too much to expect anything more from a party that is filled with renegades, dubious characters, opportunists and failed politicians.
Suffice it to say that the original report by The Nation newspaper did not mention Governor Okowa and credited ‘a source within the EFCC’ for the story. Moreover, the Commission itself has not commented on the story nor suggested and confirmed their involvement. But the APC is shamelessly dragging Okowa into what is at best a speculative story and at worst the job of paid hirelings, in a desperate bid to gain relevance, further proof of their notoriety as a party of irresponsible and mischievous people. The Delta APC can be likened to a drowning man clutching at every available straw for survival.
In their desperation to establish an ethnic link, the Delta APC described Georgina Onuoha, the central figure in a Facebook altercation relating to the story, as ‘an actress that hails from the Ika-speaking area of Delta State and based in Texas U.S.A.”But this is a complete lie and misinformation. Georgina Onuoha has told the world that she is from Ihitte/Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State. She also disclosed for the benefit of the APC nit wits who know nothing about the cities in the United States, that she lives in Sacremento, California, not Texas. So where did the APC get their own information from if not for mischief purposes?
For the benefit of the unsuspecting public, we wish to make it abundantly clear that State Governments DO NOT RECEIVE DOLLARS from the Federal Government, whether FAAC allocation or bail-out funds. So where did the APC get the information that Delta State received $10 million as bail-out fund if it is not the figment of their own imagination? If we are to go by their phantom story, how was it diverted? Was it by wire transfer? How is that kind of transaction possible given the stringent foreign exchange regulations currently in place in Nigeria? Or is the Delta APC suggesting that $10 million was moved by cash through the nation’s airports?
Can such a huge amount of money be transferred into the United States without triggering the red flag at both the Financial Intelligence Units in Nigeria and the United States of America, because they receive, analyse and distribute financial intelligence gathered from Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) on per seconds basis? Can the ailing APC do Deltans a favour by giving us the details of the account that the $10 million was diverted to since it claimed that the money has been traced to a particular bank account?
Even as they torture their feeble minds to grapple with these very simple but critical posers, we wish to assure the divided and divisive APC in Delta State that their cheap attempt to cast aspersions on the solid reputation of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has failed woefully, as it is already common knowledge that he is a man of unassailable integrity and great moral rectitude. Governor Okowa will not be distracted by the antics of these disgruntled politicians.
He remains irrevocably focused on his stated vision of bringing prosperity to all Deltans as evident in the fruits of his job creation programme, infrastructural renewal and agricultural reforms.
Deltans know better than to believe the APC, a party that has become synonymous with lies and vile propaganda and has not fulfilled one electoral promise since it gained power at the centre.

Probe Okowa over alleged $10m diversion, says APC

The Delta state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the EFCC to probe the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for allegedly diverting $10 million bailout funds belonging to the state.
Governor Okowa

Reacting to the allegation against the governor, the APC has called on the EFCC to ignore the denial by Okowa and thoroughly scrutinize the state’s finances, The Eagle Online reports.
The party in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 31, by its acting spokesman, Leonard Obi, said the recent allegations against Governor Okowa was a valid reason for the EFCC to dig deeper with investigation and uncover other possible covert misappropriation by Governor Okowa who has still not responded to a recent accusation that he, allegedly, has misappropriated a sum of N48.6b from the statutory allocation due to Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
The party said: “It is obvious to Deltans that under Governor Okowa’s PDP-led government and indeed, all previous PDP-led administrations, Delta State has nosedived in all ramifications: economically, educationally and in the quality of its infrastructure, leaving the state impoverished and left behind on several development indices.
“In the midst of such extreme insensitivity to the plight of Deltans, it is awful and disgusting to be reminded of the looting of Delta State treasury which cabals in previous PDP-led administrations visited upon the innocent people of Delta State."
The APC alleged that the looting of Delta state treasury has become another recurring decimal with the Okowa PDP-led government.
It said called on the governor to clear the air on the allegation that he misappropriated the sum of N48.6billion DESOPADEC funds.

Delta Govt denies alleged diversion of $10m bailout funds by Okowa

The Delta state Government has disclaimed a report that linked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa with an alleged diversion of $10 million from the bailout funds.
Mr. Ukah

A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah disclaiming the story reads:
“Our attention has been drawn to a news item with the above headline published by The Nation newspaper on Saturday, January 28, 2017 and the various attempts to link Delta State Governor, Sen Dr Ifeanyi Okowa  with the said story.
“It is instructive to state that The Nation, quoting sources from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reported that a serving governor from the South - South region, allegedly diverted $10M from the bail out fund for his state, without mentioning anybody's name.
“We are appalled by the attempt to link Governor Okowa  with the story by online media. We find it ridiculously tasteless and mischievous. This can only be part of the unrelenting campaign of calumny and the ceaseless peddling of pernicious propaganda against the person and office of the Delta State Governor .
“For the record, the state government has severally in the past given account of how the bailout fund the state got from the Federal Government was used. We will not repeat ourselves here.
“Governor Okowa  is a responsible family man and a well respected public figure. His preoccupation has been and continues to be how to deliver on his promised S.M.A.R.T agenda to the good people of Delta State since he came to office. And he has received applause and commendations from far and near for being so focused and unrelenting in the pursuit of his vision for the state.
“He will not be distracted by any form of organised and orchestrated blackmail from any quarters. And God willing, he will continue to deliver on his promises.
But we wish to sound this note of warning, that if those who are bent on carrying out their devious and dubious campaign of calumny against the governor refuse to stop this infamous trade of theirs, we reserve the right to take any action deemed appropriate to seek redress”.
Patrick Ukah
Commissioner for Information.

Governor loses $10m diverted bailout money to mistress

A governor is reportedly in trouble after the sum of $10 million he diverted from the bailout funds allocated to his state was hijacked by his mistress.
The Nation reported that the governor was said to have commissioned his mistress to help him launder the said sum only for the latter to refuse to remit it in the slush accounts the governor provided.
Already, the money in question has been traced to a bank in the United States.
The Nation investigation revealed that the governor resorted to using his US-based mistress to stash the funds abroad in order to avoid monitoring by security agencies.
The cash was allegedly either wired or hauled in tranches in order to beat the nation’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
In spite of the governor’s tricks, however, security agencies were able to intercept the deal between him and his mistress.
It was gathered that the diversion of the looted $10 million by the mistress created an uproar that triggered the ongoing investigation of the deal between the love birds.
One of the sources involved in the probe said: “A governor from an oil-producing state is in soup and under probe by some security agencies.
“The governor seems to have been duped by his mistress who stays in Texas in the United States.
“The governor is worried after discovering that his girlfriend has defrauded him of $10 million. What started as a love affair and promises of good faith has turned sour.
“Yet the governor would not want his wife or the people of the state, who will be disappointed, to know about this ugly transaction.”
The security chief added that “Investigation so far indicated that the governor allegedly diverted part of the bailout funds meant for his state to the mistress.
“All relevant security agencies are already tracking how the cash was wired to the mistress as well as the whereabouts of the funds.
“Very soon, the details of the transaction will be revealed to Nigerians.
“This is why the government has decided to monitor how bailout funds and London-Paris loan refunds were spent.”
The Presidency in 2016 released the sum of N1. 266.44 trillion to 36 states within nine months.
The breakdown includes N713.70 billion special intervention funds to states and London Paris Club loan refunds of N522.74 billion.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had said 16 states were yet to disburse about N57, 663, 185, 735 of the bailout funds approved for them by President Muhammadu Buhari.

How the UK conspired to convict Ibori, Gohil, others - Govt’s Role

                                                                                                                     OPINION
By Tony Eluemunor

There is one aspect of the James Onanefe Ibori’s and his associates’ London trial that is now unravelling; it shows that the British control of Nigeria’s polity never waned despite Nigeria’s 1960 paper independence.
Chief James Ibori

Unknown to Nigerians, Britain has an outfit whose tentacles reach into the commanding heights of Nigerian business, politics and social organisations. The Ibori London trial provides a case study of how Britain uses its powers to affect the direction of any Nigerian development, including elections.

At the centre of this conspiracy is the British government’s aid agency – the Department for International Development (DfID).  To the world, it provides British monetary support for humanitarian aid and projects in impoverished counties. Yet, as its role in the Ibori case shows, its agenda is however political. In the Ibori case/s, the British government used these aid funds as a political tool against Ibori and to support its political agenda and undermine Nigerian sovereignty.
For the first time, we reveal how this was done.
Bhadresh Gohil, Ibori’s UK lawyer, who has maintained his innocence from the outset first began uncovering the true and deeply conflicted role of DFID in 2011. The 2010, Gohil trial lacked any evidence of any crimes committed by Ibori.  The basis of the case was totally unsupported.  He then discovered that the jury foreman in his trial, as in Mrs Theresa Ibori’s own trial too, was a senior career DFID top management employee
To begin at the beginning; It will be recalled that since 2005, DFID funded the entirety of the Ibori, Gohil and linked prosecutions; with £16 million going to “The Proceeds of Corruption Unit.”
Here, it must be noted that the Ibori London trial truly differs from the Nigerian trial in the inclusion of the V-Mobile Transaction among the charges Ibori faced in London, and the use of inference and inference alone as opposed to proving allegations beyond any reasonable doubt in Nigeria.
For the first time in the Ibori case/s, the presumption of innocence laws were abandoned and it became a presumption of guilt. Inferential law, created originally to combat both terrorism and narcotics-trafficking was applied to support the UK’s charges against the powerful politician.
With the mere inference, as opposed to proof beyond reasonable doubt level of proof firmly in place, all a jury of Britons heard were the words “politician”, “Nigerian”, “money” and “corruption” without any investigations into any allegation.  The dishonest smearing by UK police who failed to conduct even the most basic of investigations and dishonest prosecutors who withheld key material in the Ibori cases has no chance of success in a REAL trial.
Having lost in Nigeria, after the DFID-funded EFCC lost the case against Ibori in 2009, the DFID-funded British Police then dragged  the same charges to the UK. Thus, the charge over sale of Delta State’s shares in V-Mobile arose merely to exaggerate the value. Yet, it is remarkable that Delta State lost no money in that entire transaction.
Just how Britain steered this prosecution speaks volumes: DFID, was effectively, the second-largest shareholder in Celtel BV and was a stringent opponent of Delta State in the V-Mobile Boardroom. All of this was undisclosed during the trials.
Clearly, neither the Nigerian nor the British public knew that in the V-Mobile shares sale issue and the Ibori case, DfID acted as aid partner, governance monitor, investigator in Nigeria through its funding of the EFCC, UK investigator, UK prosecutor, and had a senior employee as the jury foreman.  Not even the Nigerian government exercised such powers in its own land. DfID was at the same time funding NGOs that it could use as pressure points to affect any government policy or election, even as it was also funding on-line publications to further those ends.
Also, DFID, through its commercial arm, CDC Plc, was actively and discreetly using tax havens and acquiring substantial assets linked to Ibori and in particular acquired V-Mobile, through Celtel BV.
The following diagram demonstrates the numerous DFID conflicts, all of which have been engineered or orchestrated by DFID officials in this case. They demonstrate staggering and unacceptable violations of constitutional law in the UK.
The diagram shows just how deeply the British Government was orchestrating the prosecution and the conviction.

We see the following:-
·         DFID’s Aid to Nigeria has been in the region of £1.4 billion in a number of governance programs and represents on the 4th largest in Africa

·         DfID funded Delta State (STAND) programme in Ibori’s Delta state.

·         DfID funded the EFCC Ibori prosecution under Justice 4 ALL/ Security Justice Growth. DfID's head Sir Mark Lowcock often met with EFCC Chair Lamorde, according to newspaper reports,  who as a person has had serious charges hung on his neck.

·         DfID via it's commercial arm CDC (100% owned by the DFID is invested in 7 major Nigerian companies all linked to Ibori.

·         DfID was the 2nd largest Shareholder in Celtel BV – the purchaser of V-Mobile, again another undisclosed major conflict
Most of all, Lambertus de Boer, one of the lawyers jailed in the case has dropped this bombshell: “DfID entered into an agreement with the Nigerian Authorities in 2005 claiming the first £25m from all funds recovered during confiscation proceedings from Ibori and Ibori linked cases…” would be paid to DfID before a penny is returned to Nigeria. So, a treasure hunt is on.
No wonder the Crown Prosecution Service’s (CPS) public statements have been exceptionally misleading. DfID/CPS have repeatedly claimed that some $250 million was alleged to have been stolen by Ibori from Delta State.  But at the 2013 Ibori confiscation hearing at Southwark Crown Court, it became clear that His Honour Judge Anthony Pitts, having heard the underlying evidence, was unable to make any such findings in relation to the DfID/POCU allegations. So, the Judge could not deliver a ruling; instead he ordered a new trial even though the prosecution and the defense had made their final submissions.
De Boer has claimed that he is a victim of the same DfID-funded corrupt Metropolitan Police Service (“MPS”) and Crown Prosecution  as was Bhadresh Gohil, a co-defendant in the V-Mobile transaction and have appealed against their convictions. ‘’My appeal is based not only on the staggering police corruption but also given the heretofore non- disclosed material which clearly demonstrates the absence of any fraud/money laundering in the V-Mobile Case, it is now clear that prior to the commencement of the original December 2010 V Mobile trial, we were denied proper disclosure”. Ibori is expected to also appeal his conviction!

In the V Mobile transaction, DfID through its ownership of CDC Group plc was secretly the second largest shareholder of Dutch Antilles (a tax haven) registered Celtel B.V. – the company that ultimately acquired control of V Mobile in June/July 2006. DfID’s role in this light was plainly conflicted.
At the same time, the extensive commercial relationships between CDC Group Plc (“CDC”)/Actis LLP (“Actis”) and Emerging Capital Partners LLP (“ECP”) and James Ibori linked commercial interests were never disclosed to the various defense teams. These were exposed by the BBC’s Newsnight, in conjunction with The Corner House in 2013.
These commercial interests represented an important source of Mr. Ibori’s wealth and not as presented to the UK courts – theft from Delta State. The DfID and CDC commercial involvements with Ibori linked companies were presented in the Memorandum to Secretary of State for International Development on 29 June 2010 through the collective efforts under the umbrella of the Jubilee Debt Campaign and The Corner House. The Corner House provided a briefing document to Parliament in 2010-2012. These co-investment and other commercial linkages remain open for proper investigation.
DfID has also been conflicted on numerous levels in this case including, funding not just the EFCC but also its chief investigator – Nuhu Ribadu, Ibori’s known political rival who it also appointed to work for its Afghanistan Office.
So the British Government through DfID, through CDC that has a business commercial relationship with James Ibori is now prosecuting Ibori through investigation for money laundering and has convicted him.

De Boer explained in London’s Ben TV interview: “V-Mobile needed financing; for about three years it had been starved of capital and it was losing market position.  Basically it devolved from the strike at the Boardroom level where Econet Wireless International’s Strive Masiwiya who had been an original shareholder back in 2002, was stripped of his ownership in 2003 because he didn’t deliver the funding that he was supposed to do”. That was the genesis really, when he did not deliver, that was when Akwa Ibom state and Delta state and possibly Lagos state got involved to provide the critical funding that the company needed.
De Boer also says “From about September, October 2005 through the second quarter of 2006, we had a very critical role in the evolution of the transaction. We had several discussions with Econet Wireless International, who was appetitive to acquire the whole of V-Mobile, we actually had discussions with them but we don’t really know for what reason Strive Masiwiya didn’t follow through on what we had brought to him, whether it was for lack of funds on his part or whether he had a larger motive in driving the underlying capital in V-Mobile into bankruptcy which would have happened if the Celtel deal hadn’t transpired”

De Boer said “For the life of me, I never understood why Ibori pleaded guilty. Mr. Ibori was not at all involved in the transaction. We have  Akwa-Ibom  state which also gave  consent, Delta gave consent, along the line, sitting on top of Delta State was James Ibori. He was convicted,, prosecuted, convicted over that, Akwa-Ibom was never arraigned. I didn’t understand Mr. Gohils’ position either. And when Mr. Gohil pleaded guilty, my Barrister just throw me into the box. When he pleaded guilty, it became criminal proceeds and the fees that we earned and other proceeds, and of course, myself and Mr. McCain had handled them and they just felt that I had money laundered”.

De Boer explained: “The CDC as I now know was the largest shareholder of Celtel, the ultimate winning bidder and I didn’t know that at that time and there were other aspects where CDC had been involved. CDC had invested a lot of money with a private equity group called Emerging Capital Partners which is based in Washington DC with important office in Johannesburg. The shares could not be tendered through the Celtel bid because they had a right of first refusal issue when they originally priced them. So I was negotiating with them and all of a sudden I was shut off the scene. It was later I got to know that it was CDC and ECP that wanted to buy those shares and wanted us out of the way”.

One thing is clear: CDC is a business financial arm of DfID, a department of the British Government and have financial stake in Celtel , the second largest financial shareholder wanting to take over V-Mobile that Delta state was also interested in. Delta state, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom became part of the parties involved, had 60% of V-Mobile and had interest in Celtel with CDC and ECP. The rest is Boardroom power play and political control games spruced up as a corruption case.
In the heat of the Ibori trial in 2011, an online publication (Sahara Reporters) received $450,000 from DfID through a proxy, Omidyar Network, to support their work over a period of three years (the Ibori trial was billed to have finished by then). Instead of retracing its steps, DfID has increased its role in the Nigerian media by making other awards and propping up yet another NGO (Enough is Enough Nigeria) to coordinate further amounts dispensed via NGOs in preparation for the 2019 election – through proxies.

Okowa ‘ll not dump PDP, says CPS

·       Debunks story alleging boss’ scheme with 3 govs to defect to APC

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state Mr. Charles Aniagwu has debunked a news report that the governor is among three other governors from the south tinkering with the idea of decamping to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
The alleged four governors

Responding to enquiries by Banner Media Network, Aniagwu in sneering at the story said on telephone: “My oga is not moving; he is very much happy with PDP.”
However, the news report states as reads:“The gale of defections buffeting the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is about to get worse as four governors elected on the platform of the party have made overtures to defect to the ruling All Progressives Party, APC, THE WILL has exclusively reported.
“According to the online medium, the governors include: Governors Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Ifeanyi Okowa(Delta) and Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo).
“The quartet except Mimiko, whose tenure ends next month, are still serving out their first term and can seek re-election in 2019. Their moves may not be unconnected with the ambition to secure their continuation in office for a second term.
“Relying its report on “authoritative sources in the APC,” THEWILL observed that the plan by the governors remains on the front burner despite a recent warning by Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi that members leaving for the APC would soon begin to regret their actions.
Speaking at a late night meeting of the PDP Governors’ Forum and the National Assembly caucus held at the private residence of the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose in Abuja, Makarfi argued that the PDP was not divided and that it would soon bounce back to reckoning.
“May I use this opportunity to tell those who are running helter-skelter for one reason or the other and saying that they are cross-carpeting, that there is no division in the PDP. It is unfortunate but they will pay a political price for making such decision,” said the former Kaduna governor.
Emmanuel Udom
“All is definitely not well between Udom and his predecessor and political benefactor, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who is presently the minority leader at the senate, THEWILL can authoritatively report.
“The cold war between Udom and Akpabio has been brewing for a while since the former started making subtle moves to assert himself in the state as a political force which culminated in last year’s dissolution of the state cabinet which was largely dominated by Akpabio’s nominees.
“Authoritative sources at the ruling party told our correspondent that Udom has in the past few weeks met covertly at least twice with a very high ranking executive of the APC, where his defection to the party was the main agenda. It is not clear when Udom will formally break ranks with Akpabio and eventually defect but “the first step in his bid has seen the Senator representing his senatorial district, Akwa Ibom South, Senator Nelson Effiong defect to the APC, citing the internal crisis in the party”.
“Reacting immediately, the PDP leader in the Senate and former Akwa Ibom governor, Senator Akpabio argued that Effiong should automatically lose his seat since he became a senator through the PDP platform. He maintained that the PDP will challenge the defection in court.
Dave Umahi
“That the Ebonyi governor will defect to the APC is certain, the only question is when that will happen.
“Recall that Umahi had openly said he would support the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari, stating that the President has already won the support of PDP controlled Ebonyi state, in case he plans to run in 2019. He assured that Ebonyi people will vote for him.
“Our source said Umahi has already held meetings with the same top official of the APC to discuss and perfect his defection move.
Ifeanyi Okowa
“THEWILL can also report that Governor Okowa is equally mulling defecting to the APC to get the backing of the party which controls the federal government and has held talks with the same top official of the ruling party.
Okowa’s popularity is waning in the state due to a couple of unfriendly policies, allegations of tribalism, retrenchment of workers and backlogs of unpaid salaries especially at the local government level. There are also allegations that he is doing all the major contracts in the state through proxies and governing like a despot.
THEWILL correspondent learnt that the Governor has at least twice in the company of a serving Minister from the South-South met with the same top official of the APC to discuss crossing over to the ruling party.
THE WILL”

Fayose flays FG’s attacks on men of God

·        Says country will be in crisis if trend continues
·        Chides DSS for going after men of God while Fulani herdsmen are on killing spree without arrest
By Emmanuel Ani
The Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Mr Ayodele Fayose has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government to be mindful of how it handles issues bordering on religion in the country so as not to throw the country into religious crisis. Condemning attempt by armed men of the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest Apostle Johnson Suleiman of The Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide in Ado Ekiti, early today, he said it was a clear invitation to chaos.
Governor Fayose speaking to Journalists in Ado Ekiti
Governor Fayose, who challenged the security agencies in the country, especially the DSS to tell Nigerians how many of the Fulani herdsmen that killed thousands of Nigerians across the country have been arrested, added that; “Nigerians, either Muslim or Christian deserve to be protected by the federal government, which controls all security apparatus in the country and the moment the federal government can no longer protect Nigerians from being killed by rampaging herdsmen, citizens of the country will have no option than to defend themselves.”
Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose, who lamented that the APC-led federal government was indirectly supporting attack on Christians and other Muslim sects, especially the Shi’ites, by looking the other way while they are attacked, called on the international community to intervene before Nigeria is thrown into major religious crisis.
Governor Fayose, who expressed surprise that a man of God was been trailed to be arrested by the men of DSS said, he expected the security peratives to invite him if they have any issue with him instead of arresting him in the dead of the night after a powerful and spirit-filled crusade in my State.
He said; “If the federal government had acted swiftly like it acted on Apostle Suleiman so-called inciting comments when people were being
killed by herdsmen across the country, so many lives would have been saved.”
The governor described as strange, APC hatred for men of God, especially those seen as not on the same page with the party, saying; “It is on record that the APC in Ekiti State issued press statements and went on social media to disparage the Redeemed Christians Church of God (RCCG) Worldwide General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye just because he praised me when he came to Ekiti. And curiously, it was immediately Pastor Adeboye came to Ekiti State and praised me that he was forced to relinquish his position as the General Overseer of the RCCG.
“Apostle Johnson Suleiman openly condemned the killing of Nigerians across the country and went on to say that Christians should rise and defend themselves if the federal government, which controls all security apparatus will not defend them and the next thing that happened was the DSS moving swiftly to arrest him.
“Isn’t it ridiculous that instead of running after those herdsmen that have killed over 3,000 Nigerians in just one year, the DSS opted to arrest a man of God, who merely expressed his frustration on the inability of Nigeria to protect its citizens?
“Or who should be arrested between those killer herdsmen and Apostle Suleiman who merely expressed his readiness for self-defence and called on Christians to defend themselves if they are attacked by the herdsmen?
“We were all in this country when cattle breeders openly said over 1,000 Agatu people of Benue State were killed because over 10,000 cows were killed. We were also told that the Southern Kaduna genocide was as a result of killing of cows. Up till today, none of those cattle
breeders have been arrested.”
The governor, who said there could also be plan to arrest the General Overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide International (Winners’ Chapel International), Bishop David Oyedepo, warned security operatives against intimidation and arrest of men of God in the interest of peace and religious harmony in the country.
He called for the release of the head of Nigeria’s Islamic Movement (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who has been in detention since late 2015 despite that the court ruled that he should be released, saying; “I stand for Nigeria and its people, not for any religion and it is my position that rights of all Nigerians must be respected and
protected.”
The Governor said, “I personally attended his crusade and I think it is wrong for a man of God who is armless that could be invited if they have any issue against him. Are Christians and Moslems under different dispensation of the rule of law? That’s why I went there to rescue him. Let them kill two of us together. But when they saw my vehicles and the crowd, they fled.
Governor Fayose noted that it was unbecoming of the Federal Government to be harassing clergymen in the country, noting that the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye was harassed and forced to resign shortly after he visited him
in Ado Ekiti. He said, “This is unacceptable, we are in a democracy and Nigerians should warn the Presidency against putting this country on fire
because religion is an emotional thing.”

I didn’t ask Christians to kill Muslims, says Apostle Suleman

Apostle Suleman Johnson of the Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide has denied the security report leading to his attempted arrest on Tuesday where he was alleged to have instructed congregation during a preaching that Christians should go after Muslims. The Apostle has described the report as not only senseless but malicious.
Apostle Sulaiman
The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, had prevented the man of God from being arrested in Ado Ekiti by operatives of the Department of State Services(DSS), when they made alleged spirited efforts to pick him up over a comment he allegedly made a couple of weeks ago, which the authorities branded as too ‘caustic’ and ‘inflammatory.’
Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday on the contentious issue, Pastor Suleman clarified that what his preaching centred on was the need to always defend themselves anytime the church is invaded by gunmen and not a direct incendiary comment that can make Christians and Muslims to confront one another.
The cleric added that it was sinful for anyone to order a fellow man to kill a creation of God, describing the alleged comment as a
misrepresentation of facts.
He said: “They said I preached in Auchi two weeks ago which they said implied that I was instigating Christians against Muslims . I have always been an advocate of peace and I can’t stay around and be saying such. There widows, orphans we take care of . No leader will see his shepherd being killed and be happy.
“Later, I got anonymous calls from Fulani Herdsmen about what I said. What I said was that, if gunmen came around church to attack churches, you must defend yourself, but if they come to pray, don’t attack. But they quoted me out of context. I am not stupid, I live among the crowd and I am not senseless. Time for self defence has come. Whether you are a Muslim or Christian, someone can’t just come to your house and killed your children and you will keep quiet.
“I said the Christians must not go after them, but if they come after us, then defend yourself. This is what they twisted to mean. I am hearing different versions of the story. I was in Abuja for three days why didn’t they come after me. But now that I am in Ekiti, they wanted to lump me up with a man they think was against them. It could have been easier to pick me up in Abuja, I don’t live here.
“If this will make them to clarify what I meant, I can present the video of my preaching. A town in Aviele in Edo State , Muslims rushed into the church and chased away all church members. I have always been preaching that youths must not kill . It was even wrong for the police or security agency to be coming around me and be saying I preached that I said Christians should kill Muslims without any verifiable facts.
“The only thing I am seeing is that we must learn how to investigate. I am not happy because of the way Christian community have been reacting. They are even saying they will protests abroad in all Nigerian embassies. I will never be alive and see Christians destroying property of Muslims because there will be problem.
“If they had called me and say I should tone down what I said, I would have gone back to do that. I have never been invited, but if I am invited I will come but that will be at my own time. I was not stopped from preaching.
“This Kaduna crisis confirmed that there was a deliberate attempt to frustrate Christians. The National Assembly must not fold their arms and see this happen. But I have no grudge against Buhari or DSS. They are only doing their job, but the DSS did it wrongly.”

Fayose foils DSS attempt to arrest Apostle Suleiman

In the early hours of Wednesday, Governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose, foiled an attempt by the Department of State Services (DSS), to arrest Apostle Johnson Suleiman of the Omega Fire Ministries in Ado Ekiti.
Apostle Suleiman
The fiery preacher has been in the news lately, after a clip of him telling his members to resist the killings by Fulani herdsmen went viral.
Suleiman was in Ekiti for a two-day crusade, which was attended by Governor Fayose. He was later trailed to his hotel after visiting the Government House.
The DSS operatives encountered resistance from the hotel security, who demanded to know what their mission was. It led to the pastor alerting Fayose, who stepped in and stopped the attempt to arrest him.
Suleiman while narrating the incident said: “I came to Ado Ekiti for a crusade. But I had a premonition that I was being trailed after I preached that Christians should retaliate any attack or killings by the Fulani herdsmen.

“These Fulani headmen had turned many Christians to orphans and widowers but the time has come to protect ourselves.
“I received several calls from hidden numbers trying to locate where I am and I had warned my security not to allow any Fulani man to come nearer me.
“So when the men of DSS came in the middle of the night, I knew their mission and I had to call the Governor because if they arrest me, they will put this country on fire”
Fayose also added that he expected the DSS to invite Suleiman and not try to whisk him away in the middle of the night.
The Governor said: “I personally attended his crusade and I think it is wrong for a man of God who is armless that could be invited if they have any issue against him.
“Are Christians and Moslems under different dispensation of the rule of law? That’s why I went there to rescue him. Let them kill two of us together. But when they saw my vehicles and the crowd, they fled.
“But we have information that instructions came from DSS in Abuja that the Pastor should be arrested. We are not in a fascist state. Federal Government must learn to respect the rights of Nigerians and freedom of expression.
“This is unacceptable, We are in a democracy and Nigerians should warn the Presidency against putting this country on fire because religion is an emotional thing”.

SGF indictment: Buhari’s double standard in corruption fight worries Shehu Sani

Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District and Chairman Ad-hoc Committee on Humanitarian crises in the Northeast, Shehu Sani, has expressed disappointment at the presidency’s response to the committee’s report.
Senator Shehu Sani
Reacting to President Buhari’s position, exonerating the SGF, Babachir Lawal of any wrongdoing in the award of contract in IDPs to his company, Rholavision Engineering Services Limited, Sani explained that something has gone wrong.
Sani said it amounts to using ‘insecticide’ when it comes to fighting corruption in the National Assembly and Judiciary, while using a ‘deodorant’, when it comes to fighting corruption at the Executive arm
“Mr. President, Distinguished Colleagues, I rise through Order 43 of Senate Rules and I want to submit that President Buhari’s reaction on SGF shows the use of insecticides when fighting corruption at the legislative arm, while he uses deodorant at the Executive arm,” he said.
Debunking claims that SGF was not given fair hearing before calling for his resignation in report, Sani explained that a public hearing was held, but the SGF did not honour the invitation which was given to him.
He also averred that copies of the report was signed by all the members of the Committee, while expressing shock at the version without his name which Mr. President relied on.
“Distinguished Colleagues, you realize that the copy which was read to us did not carry my name even as the Committee Chairman and I wonder where it emanated from,” he asked.
He insisted that the Committee did a thorough review of activities of government officials involving coordination of IDPs, adding that SGF remained indicted.
