The Delta State House of Assembly Tuesday wielded the big
stick and in a unanimous vote suspended the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government,
Henry Baro over alleged financial misappropriation and insecurity matters in
the local government.
The legislators also directed all the local government
council chairmen in the state to submit to the ad hoc committee set up by the
Assembly all their financial records on or before Thursday, August 8th,
2015.
Assembly’s Speaker, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya said the directive on the
council chairmen is to enable the ad hoc committee carry out its assignment on
the matter.
Meanwhile, the Assembly has set up an ad hoc committee in
accordance with the Delta State Local Government Law of 2013 to investigate the
problem of insecurity and alleged financial misappropriation made against the council
chairman.
Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Tim Owefere moved the
motion that the chairman of Uvwie Local Government be suspended until the
outcome of the investigation by the ad hoc committee of the House. Hon. Festus
Okoh, minority leader seconded the motion. And following a unanimous voice vote
in favour of the motion, the Speaker declared that “The Chairman of Uvwie Local
Government is hereby suspended, and he is to handover to the Vice chairman
pending the outcome of the investigation of the ad hoc committee on the matter.
Igbuya named members of the ad hoc committee to include Hon.
Oboro Preyor as chairman, Hon. Eric Oharisi, Hon. Tony Elekeokuri and Hon.
Austin Usabike as secretary.
