Ndokwa East Councilors want Nkechi Chukwura removed as LG Chairman

The acrimony in the troubled administration of Ndokwa East Local government finally boiled over Wednesday when the councilors who make up the legislative arm of the council staged a protest at the Delta state House of Assembly calling for the removal of the Chairman, Mrs. Nkechi Chukwurah.
The councilors who came with their teeming placard wielding supporters stormed the gate of the Assembly on Okpanam Road, Asaba chanting anti- Nkechi Chukwurah songs denouncing her style of administration.
Received at the gate by the Speaker of the State Assembly, RT. Hon. Monday Igbuya, accompanied by his colleagues, the leader of the Ndokwa East Local Government Legislative arm, Olise Martins complained that since their inauguration in Novermber 2014 the Chairman has been running the council as a family business.
“We don’t have budget up till now. Even the nominee for the post of secretary that has been screened by the House of Assembly, she refused him to operate. At the same time sir, there is no respect for the elders in the council.
“What really came up this period is that we moved for income and expenditure. As Councilors of this local government we don’t even know what comes into our local government and how this money is being spent. Therefore we resolved that we are going to move for income and expenditure. It is a simple thing,” Olise Martins said.
He continued: “From the day we moved for this income and expenditure, she has been chasing us with thugs. We’ve been running. We do not participate in our local government. Then in our next adjourned date, we went to our chambers. On hearing that we were coming to sit, she used another key, a bigger key and padlocked the chambers, forgetting that the standing order has also permitted us to sit outside our chambers so long as it is a public place.”
When they met on August 3rd, 2015, they made some resolutions that he did not make public but contained in the materials and CD handed over to the Speaker, and praying the House of Assembly to properly investigate her, suspend her and impeach her. “That’s what we are praying. Because we are not comfortable with her. And we are at the same time begging the leaders in this State who are outside our local government to allow Ndokwa East be. They should not intervene in this problem,” Olise Martins pleaded.
Stressing that the House of Assembly know what to do, Martins alleged that Mrs. Chukwurah has been boasting everywhere that there is nothing anybody can do. Therefore, we are begging the House of Assembly sir, to appropriately look into this issue and do what is expected of you,” he said.
Effort made to get Mrs. Chukwurah’s reaction failed despite phone calls, text messages and visit to her in Asaba.
The Speaker while receiving the materials from Martins chided the protesters for being unruly in their conduct. “You people must try to be civil. If you go by the way you are going now the issue will not go and nothing will happen. So you people must be very, very careful. You came here with a protest, you have handed over your protest (materials), so what is… can you force her out?”

“No sir,” the protesters looking sober and remorseful responded. “Anyway, we will look into your protest. Whatever you have done that is contained here,(showing the materials handed in by the leader of the protesters), we will look into it and get back to you,” the Speaker said.
