Prof. Aize Obayan,
Vice-Chancellor, Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara, on Wednesday said that
the institution was fighting hunger, not just in Nigeria but in Africa, through
its involvement in agriculture.
This is contained in a
statement signed by the university’s Head, Corporate and Public Affairs, Mrs
Ngozi Osueke, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in
Lagos.
It said that the
university, established by the Living Faith Church Commission worldwide, was
inaugurated in March 2011 for full commencement of academic operations.
It said that the
institution had the mandate to drive an agrarian revolution through its
undergraduate programmes in the Colleges of Agricultural Sciences, Engineering,
Science, Business and others respectively.
According to the
statement, agriculture is the way to go, if the country's youth and the nation
as a whole would embrace it, and pay attention to it.
It said that the future
of Africa and Nigeria lay in Agribusiness, saying that the proprietor was
deeply committed to agric-business.
``This university has the
basic requirement to turn out engineers for tomorrow's Nigeria, and I think our
emphasis should be on science, technology or engineering.
``I will always add
innovation because it is not every time we can invent, but improve on what
already exists, and that is where innovation comes in.
``It is interesting to
know that the university, despite her age, has all her 23 programmes, which are
Agric Extension & Rural Development, Agricultural Economics, Animal
Science, Soil Science, Crop Science and others, accredited by the National
Universities Commission and other relevant professional bodies,’’ it added.
