Okowa orders Okenyi to look into encroachment on DELSU, Asaba land

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has directed the Commissioner for Lands, Chief Dan Okenyi to immediately step into the complaint of encroachment by some people into the land given Delta state University (DELSU), Anwai campus, Asaba.
The governor gave the order following complaint made by members of Camp 74 Fish Farmers Association, who DELSU authorities have allowed to use the swampy portion of the land for fish farming.
Chairman of Camp 74 Fish Farmers’ Association, Mr. Upright Nnwanneka told Governor Okowa, who came to see the extent of damage done by rain flood which washed away fish from the over 1,000 ponds in the farm that one of the constraints of the farmers is the problem of encroachment of the farm by some people said to be claiming ownership of the affected portion of the DELSU land. “Already, the claimers are erecting fences and making other demarcations on the land,” Nnwanneka said, pointing out that fish ponds of farmers in the association are therefore affected.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Barrister (Mrs.) Mary Iyasere also confirmed the encroachment, as she told the governor that the invaders have in fact, taken the portion of land where the Ministry is building the fish mill for the farmers.

The governor who looked a bit surprised at how anyone could be laying claims to land belonging to DELSU called on the Commissioner for lands, Chief Okenyi who was also present at the occasion to immediately wade into the complaint with a view to resolving the imbroglio.
