Warri Wolves Football
Club on Sunday defeated Niger Tornadoes FC 1-0 at the Warri Township Stadium in
a week five match of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The lone goal was scored
by Achibe Ewenike in the fifth minute.
Thereafter, the home team
made several moves to increase the tally but the Minna-based Niger Tornadoes
stopped them at every attempt.
Niger Tornadoes also made
some good efforts at scoring, but goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye was equal to the
task.
During the post-match
interview, coach of Warri Wolves, Peter Nieketien, said a critical analysis of
their previous matches gave the team an insight into its areas of weakness.
``We looked at the match
analysis of our game against Rangers International of Enugu on March 2 and I
told the boys we did not play well against our opponents.
``But all I can say now
is that we will continue to improve on our game.
``The players that were
ineligible to feature for us in the NPFL have now been cleared and I can assure
that we are going to improve,’’ Nieketien said.
In his comments, coach
Abdullahi Biffo of Niger Tornadoes said he was consoling himself with the fact
that the game of football could go either way.
``I told my players to
watch the game for about 15 minutes before they launched out, but they did not
listen.
``I told them that they
were going to play under intense pressure because of the opponents’ experience
with Rangers.
``We also created scoring
chances that we could not convert. In fact, we did not give it our best,’’
Biffo said.(NAN)
