The Oyo Sate House of
Assembly has invited the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to
explain reasons for its arbitrary billing and irregular power supply to
residents of the state.
This was part of the
recommendations of a motion by Hon. Gbenga Oyekola representing Atiba State
Constituency and the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Musa Abdulwasi, during Tuesday's
plenary session.
Oyekola, who alleged that
most residents of the state were being exploited by the distribution company,
said it was imperative for the company to explain to the house reasons for the
estimated billing.
He said that one of the
ways to curb the issues of arbitrary billing was to mandate IBEDC to distribute
prepaid metres to the residents free.
The house also advised
the state emergency management authorities to be proactive in rendering
assistance to victims of natural disaster within the state.
This was part of the
recommendation of the House Joint Committee on Environment and Habitat and
Special Duties in its report on the havoc caused by rain storms in Ogbomoso,
Oyo and Ibarapa.
The News Agency of
Nigeria (NAN) reports that the report was presented by Hon. Muideen Wahab,
representing Oluyole State Constituency. (NAN)
