Operation kill the rats begin in Delta State


As part of the pro-active measures against the spread of Lassa Fever in Delta State, the State Ministry of Environment has kick-started ‘Operation Kill The Rats’ through fumigation and “deratilization” at Abraka, Ogbeogonogo and Cable Point Market.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Barr. John Nani stated that the fumigation exercise will extend to other populous strategic markets, dumpsites, Delta State Central Hospital, Okwe and some Government core Areas.
He noted that the Ministry started the exercise with sensitization adding that the pro-active measure employed by the State Government was in line with the Government SMART agenda.
Hon. Nani assured Deltans and the business community operating in the State of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa’s readiness to create a conducive environment for the enhancement of the growth and development of the State.
He also advised all landlords, occupants, traders and the general public to co-operate with the Ministry of Environment
The market people commended the effort of the State Government.
 Meanwhile the general public has been warned not to eat any dead rats, cats, dogs and pigs found in the fumigated markets.
