DELTA AGRIC MINISTRY BEGINS REGISTRATION OF FARMERS CO-OPERATIVES


The State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has commenced
the registration and verification of Farmer’s Co-operative Societies
for participation in the “CBN Anchor Borrowers Scheme” for farmers and
processors in the production and utilization of rice, oil palm,
fisheries and cassava in the state.

A Statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, indicated

that the Delta State Government is collaborating with the Central Bank
of Nigeria (CBN) through the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural
Resources.

The Statement added that the objective of the programme is
to increase Credit to farmers in order to boost production and raise
capacity utilization in the agro allied industries.

Accordingly, the State Government is inviting farmers and
Off-Takers engaged in the production and utilization of the four (4)
focal commodities mentioned above and who have not registered to
express interest through Farmers Co-operative
Societies/Processing Entities and register same at the Ministry of
Agriculture Headquarters at NO12, Chiedu Ezenyili Street, Asaba.

To participate in the Scheme, farmers must show evidence of
ownership of land, and the willingness to abide by the terms and
conditions of the programme.

The Statement further added that registration in the Anchor
Borrowers Scheme is free and therefore ,does not attract any fee or
contributions, for these reasons farmers in Delta State are encouraged
to register in order to take part in the Scheme.

However, the decision of the verification committee on the
suitability of any farmer is final.
