We Will Complete All Projects - Okowa

·        Youths commend him for empowerment programme

 AS part of the first year Anniversary Celebration of his administration, Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa Monday [24-05-16] embarked on the commissioning of various completed road projects and inspection of ongoing ones, saying his administration will complete all the projects it has started before the end of his first tenure in office.
The Governor who commissioned the 1.7 kilometres  Ejinyere/Orodje Streets in Orerokpe, Okpe local government area of Delta State , stated, "all these roads we have started will be completed within our first tenure.
"The development of urban and rural infrastructure is crucial to the achievement of this administration’s main objective of delivering prosperity to Deltans as being demonstrated through this project, which tallies with our aim of a transformed environment through urban renewal," the Governor said at the occasion which was attended by the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, HRM Orhue I, Chiefs and top government functionaries.
He announced that "since assumption of office, we have embarked on a number of road projects in most parts of the State; we have also continued and fast-tracked some projects inherited from past administrations, especially those, which are in tandem with our SMART agenda, as these projects are aimed at unleashing the enormous but latent wealth and job creation potentials of our people, engendering a sense of belonging, impacting on socio-economic lives of communities and ultimately promoting commerce and industry within and outside communities."
While observing that, "the commissioning of this road today is a testimony to the deliberate attempt by our government to upgrade the renewal of our towns and cities, even rural communities," the Governor charged contractors handling projects in the State "to be conscientious in the execution of government projects so that together, we can move the State forward, because, adherence to project specifications and timely completion of projects are of utmost importance."
"This administration is also,  engaged in the primary function of providing access to agricultural, industrial, educational and health institutions and other facilities, amongst others," he said, adding, "we are also mindful that our roads, as part of the environment, should be built to be in harmony with and also have a transforming effect on the environment."
The Governor used the occasion to appeal to Deltans "to remain peaceful and cooperate at all times, with the PDP led administration in the State with a view to creating an enabling environment for government to deliver more dividends of democracy to all parts of the State in line with the SMART agenda of my administration."
Earlier, the Orodje of Okpe in a welcome address thanked Governor Okowa for his developmental projects stating, "I want it to be on record that since ten years, that I have been on the throne, this is the first time that contract for project are awarded and duly completed and commissioned in Okpe Kingdom by the state government."
Meanwhile, Governor Okowa received also received accolades when youths who saw the changes in the beneficiaries of Youths Agriculture Empowerment Programme (YAGEP) commended the Governor for having the interests of the jobless youths at heart.
The Governor had gone on inspection of YAGEP cluster farm, Ekpan-Ovu, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state as part of activities to mark his one year in office.
Governor Okowa who was apparently pleased with the reception of his empowerment programme by the people disclosed that the empowerment programmes of his administration were conceived to train and empower individuals who will become entrepreneurs and in the long run, train others who will also, establish their own businesses.
"We are training job creators, not people that will carry certificate to look for jobs; the job creation office should continue to mentor them and once they are able to stand on their own and employ other youths, many people will be employed," he said, adding, "I urge other youths who maybe interested in the programme to be patient, we are about to start the engagement of more youths; it is a steady programme and we will continue to engage our youths, we are looking unto those who are ready to be leaders of tomorrow."
The Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, HRM Ukori I, said Okowa was "working and delivering on his electoral promises despite the economic problems because, he was prepared for governance since 2007."
Governor Okowa also inspected the Orerokpe Ultra-Modern Market which the Governor said would be commissioned during the 25th anniversary of the state creation in August this year.
