A don, Prof. Shehu Riskuwa, on Thursday urged the Federal Government to reintroduce price control systems to check the cases of arbitrary increase in prices of essential commodities in the markets.
Riskuwa, former Vice
Chancellor of Usman Danfodio University Sokoto, made the appeal in an interview
with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto.
He said increase in
prices of food items by traders at their own will had a negative effect on the
nation’s economy.
The don said the system,
if re-introduced, would regulate the prices of essential commodities, adding
that proper monitoring of traders would ensure price control of goods in the
markets.
The former
vice-chancellor stressed that it was only by doing so that the activities of
traders, who took advantage of any change in Federal Government policy, could
be checked. (NAN)
