Delta Assembly Suspends Erijo, Ajudua, passes confidence vote on Okowa


The Delta State House of Assembly wielded the big stick Tuesday when it suspended two of its members for conduct unbecoming of members of the hallowed chambers.

Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Tim Owhefere shortly before moving the motion for the suspension of Prince Johnson Erijo (Isoko South) and Barrister (Mrs.) Pat Ajudua cautioned members of the Assembly that they are expected to add respect to the Assembly in and out of the chambers, warning that if they cannot add to the honour befitting membership of the Assembly, legislators should at least preserve the prestige of the Assembly as they found it rather than lower it whether in and out of the chambers.

“It is not accepted when honourable members add to the disrepute of this hollowed chambers,” Owhefere said. He then moved that “Hon. Johnson Erijo and Hon. Pat Ajudua be suspended from the house for three months.”
The motion was seconded by the minority Leader, Festus Chukwuyem (Ika South).
When the Speaker put the question on the motion, the ayes had it, and thus putting the seal on their suspension.
Just immediately, Mrs. Ajudua quickly took her leave and stepped out of the chambers.
Meanwhile, the Delta House of Assembly has commended and passed a vote of confidence on the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the understanding so far displayed in piloting the affairs of the state despite the economic down turn. Motion for the confidence vote was moved by Hon. Efe Ofobruku (Uvwie), and seconded by Dr. Ayibatonye Timi (Patani). In a unanimous vote, the legislators approved the confidence vote on the Governor.
In another development, Speaker of the Assembly Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya, while welcoming his colleagues from their month-long travel to the Georgia Tech Students Centre, Atlanta Georgia, United states from their annual overseas lecture and vacation urged them to apply the richness of the training and tour in the execution of a just, fair and equitable legislative agenda for good governance and development.

Igbuya also thanked Governor Okowa deemed it necessary for the law makers to go for the training despite the tight situation in the country, knowing that a solid and productive arm of government is at the centre of tru democratic governance. “While in training, we got the cheering news of his tribunal victory. I want to on behalf of members of the sixth Assembly and indeed, all other past Assemblies congratulate this magnificent legislative governor,” Igbuya said.
He also congratulated members of the Assembly on their tribunal victories, praying that the tribunal victories will be replicated in the second and final judgments. He said: “With the major tribunal issues out of the way, I enjoin all of us to be more dedicated in carrying out the duties our constituents have empowered us to perform. In the next few days, before the Christmas holiday, our decisions and deliberations can define the direction of the state.
“Therefore, we need to set our hearts on a greater purpose than our personal interests, which is to lift the state to a higher estate. We must offer hope to our people in spite of the gloomy situation, we must have faith that with the help of God, the Prosperity Agenda will be accomplished and we will work hard towards its actualization actualization because according to the scriptures faith without work is dead.

“It is public knowledge that the times are hard and the forecast is bleak but if there is anyone who can dig ua as a people, out of this present predicament, it is this sixth Assembly – blessed with giants possessing great experience, extraordinary skills and insurmountable courage working in consonance with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa,” the speaker said, pointing out that he sincere believes in the will, wisdom, intellectual nous and unflinching faith of the governor to work with the assembly to bring about the prosperity and stability hoped for.
