Delta Govt dismantles BRT, earmarks road repair projects

Delta State Government has discontinued with the operations of the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT), the Commissioner for Works, Mr. James Augoye has announced. He also said decisions of the State Executive Council to dualise a number of roads in the state, in Sapele, Asaba, Warri, Boji-Boji Owa, Agbor, Warri, Ozanogogo, even as he announced completion of the Kefas Road, Oleh, and the contractor demobilized from last week having completed his job. Just as he revealed that the access road to the tanker park at EKpan has also been completed, and that soon as the drainages are completed Governor Ifeanyi Okowa will commission both projects.

Augoye told journalists at the post executive council media briefing, Government House, Asaba that the discontinuation with the BRT by government is in total deference to the outcry of the people living in Warri and environs that the BRT be dismantled. “We’ve finally taken the decision that we should discontinue with it. We’ve started discussion with the contractor to see how he will mobilize to site to dismantle it, and also expand the road from its present two lanes on either side to three lanes, making it six lanes from the Effurun Roundabout to Enerhen junction. While in future we are going to expand and also extend it from Enerhen junction to the old NPA,”
The Commisioner said another major decision that taken by the executive council is to dualise the Sapele Road. The move is to ease the town of the experience of traffic gridlock that occurs in the Sapele main town. “so, Exco has agreed and approved that the Sapele Road from the warri-Sapele Expressway should be dualised from that point down to the AT&P, and it is going to be six lanes of 3-3 lanes on either side. And there is a directive that this should be carried out with dispatch. We will try to award the contract within the next 14 days,” Augoye said.

He disclosed that dualisation of the Cable Point Road has started, and that the contract is CCECC, which is already in site working. The section at Ozanogogo Road has also started, as the contracted is already on site. “We also have two roads that are on-going at Boji-Boji, Owa. The Kefas Road at Oleh has been completed. The contractor demobilized from site last week. He has completed his job, very soon His Excellency will commission that work,”Augoye said.
