Mrs. Mrakpor begins empowerment process for constituency youths

By Patrick ochei
The House of Reps Member at the National Assembly, representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, Hon. Joan Onyemaechi Mrakpor, has started the process of training and empowering youths of her Constituency who are ready to engage in agriculture as a means of livelihood and creating wealth for themselves and the nation at large.
Rt. Hon. (Mrs) Mrakpor, speaking to her
constituerncy youths
At her Constituency office in Asaba, hundreds of youths, including the elderly were screened for the purpose of categorising them into segments in accordance to their areas of Agricultural farming and capacity for large scale production leading to commercial quantities.
The screening will continue to ensure that nobody among those that collected the forms is left out.
So far, there are strong elements of honesty and sincerity as against insinuations by pundits. The programme is being coordinated by the Executive Chairman of Oshimili South LGA, Hon. Pastor Chief Barr. Chuks Obusom. The Panelists are made up of Prof. Moses Ojeifo, a Professor of Agro-Nomics at Delta State University, Anwai Campus, Pastor Anene Okafor, a businessman cum priest, Evangelist Obielum Maduemezie, a former Chairman of Oshimili South PDP, Comrade Geoff, Co-Administrator of Anioma Voice World-Wide and Mrs. Isagba, the Manager of Ada Anioma cucumber farm.
Earlier before the programme commenced in the morning, Hon. Mrakpor had taken time to school the youths on the need to get serious with what they want in life, adding that this time is not when they would have to relax hoping that manna would just fall from heaven.
She encouraged them to seize the opportunity she is offering to better their lives through farming, maintaining that as an example she owns a thriving cucumber farm. She posited that there has to be a paradigm shift from our previous orientation of receiving empowerment and squandering it on frivolities.
Going memory lane, she recounted how she had started hustling way back at the University of Jos, selling second hand cloths (Okrika). As if that was not enough, she graduated and opened a shop near Zappa Catholic Church in Asaba, selling OK goods and supplying people at their offices; thereby getting to meet people. She later joined politics while still hustling, but in the process Governor James Ibori in 2004 appointed her as Commissioner representing Delta North in the Board of Local Government Service Commission. She stated that her name was announced severally for the appointment but she didn't even know, only to later see missed calls, including that of former SSG Comrade Ovouzuorie Macaulay who later informed her of the appointment.
It was a five (5) year appointment, but when she worked for two (2) years, she singlehandedly resigned to aspire for a higher office - House of Assembly to represent Aniocha South Constituency. Today, she is a Member, House of Reps through a dint of hard work.
The Ada Anioma however, gave credence to Rt. Hon. Victor Onyekachi Ochei (Speaker Emeritus), for borrowing her his hilux van to go to Lagos to bring her bale of Okrika, even as a 'Nobody'.
"I was never born rich. My father was just a headmaster, doing farming too. We were taught how to hustle; even same applies to my siblings. I don't know how to beg, that's why I worked hard to succeed in life. So please, stop crying that u finished school and couldn't gain white collar job when u have two hands and two legs to make things happen for u and the society. Agriculture is the way to go. Just utilize this opportunity and u will have no reason to cry again", she concluded.
