Edo 2016: INEC assures of conclusive election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured that the Sept. 10 governorship election in Edo would be conclusive.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mr Sam Olumekun, gave the assurance on Monday at the commission’s voter education implementation meeting in Benin.
``We want to assure the people that we are prepared to conduct a conclusive governorship election on Sept. 10,’’ he said.
Olumekun explained that inconclusive elections were not about INEC, and attributed them to incidents of violence and thuggery.
He said that the meeting was to critically x-ray the effective ways to sustain voter education ahead of the election.
He stated that elections and electioneering were difficult because politicians saw politics as a do-or-die thing.
``We thank God that the 2011 election was a watershed, while the 2015 got a global acceptance as credible.’’

Participants at the meeting called for collaboration between INEC and critical stakeholders, including the media, civil society organisations, persons with disability, to ensure effective education
